Like fellow Scotsmen Frightened Rabbit and The Twilight Sad, We Were Promised Jetpacks are adept at combining the soaring emotions of a U2 anthem with the frenetic energy of post-punk. The result is a new brand of kilt-clad emo. Scotland has done it again. They joined us for our 5GB series before their show on Wednesday at the Black Cat.
What’s the first gig you ever attended?
A band called Mull Historical Society played in Edinburgh and my mum wanted to go so I took her for her birthday. I was pretty old, probably too old for a first show to be honest. Their/his album Loss had just come out, which is great, so it would’ve been about 2001, so I reckon I was 13 or 14 years old.
What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?
That’s a toughie, but maybe Music Hall of Williamsburg a couple of years ago.
What is the best gig you have ever seen?
Explosions in the Sky played the Picture House in Edinburgh a few months ago and it was incredible.
Gig you would most like to play?
Sean wants to launch his stand-up career soon, so I reckon a comedy show at the Edinburgh Fringe festival.
What would be the lineup for your dream gig?
Explosions in the Sky, Childish Gambino, Patton Oswalt and Bear Hands. (not us)
