Nerd Nite DC & Washington City Paper Present A D.C. Beer Week Event

Washington, D.C. sure does love its beer. So much so, that the city is dedicating a whole week to the beverage of the gods, starting August 16. It’ll run to August 21, and on August 20 Nerd Nite DC and Washington City Paper are having a party at Rock and Roll Hotel to celebrate. The event will feature craft beers and music pairings, featuring beer director Greg Engert of ChurchKey, founder and brewer Brian Strumke of Stillwater Artisanal Ales, Tracy Jill Doty from the NIH, New Rock Church of Fire and many more. There will also be presentations on the history, artistry and science of beer. Basically if you like music and beer, this is the place for you.

CANCELED: 19th Annual Microfest at Stoudts Beer Garden & Banquet Hall, October 15

Stoudts Beer Garden and Banquet Hall has canceled the October 15 session for their 19th Annual Microfest. Refunds have been made. Tickets are still available for the two sessions on August 28 and the two sessions on October 16.

The Argonaut Benefit at the Rock and Roll Hotel – June 30

Washington, D.C.’s The Argonaut, a neighborhood staple on H Street, recently suffered an unfortunate fire - destroying the coastal themed tavern’s kitchen and bar area.

The Rock and Roll Hotel, whose kitchen was created by the staff at the Argonaut (and who also happen to be a Ticket Alternative venue) are hosting an Argonaut fundraiser Wednesday, June 30.

Admission is $20 (service charge-free) and includes free cocktails from 5 to 11 p.m. Rock and Roll Hotel co-owner Steve Lambert says “100 percent” of proceeds will go to the employees and management of the Argonaut to help make up for lost wages and also “small repairs” that can help get the bar up and running.

Taste of Atlanta Returns October 23 & 24 – On Sale August 23

Quickly becoming one of the foodie capitals of the country, Atlanta is jam-packed with amazing restaurants and super-chefs (quite a few of whom have attained glory on shows like “Top Chef”). The annual event Taste of Atlanta showcases these great talents and their extremely yummy treats. Stoudt’s Beer Garden and Banquet Hall has canceled its East vs West Exotic Beer Tasting on June 11. Refunds have been made and there will not be a new date. But the brewtastic folks in Pennsylvania do have a host of other events coming up this summer (and beyond), like their 19th Annual Microfest (in June, August and October) and the annual Battle of the Brewery Bands in July. Decatur Square Turns into Decatur Beach – June 18

The Decatur Business Association brings in 60 tons of sand and turns the square into a beach for the annual Decatur Beach Party on Friday, June 18 from 5pm to midnight. Dancing to live music on the MARTA Plaza, boardwalk games and an expanded children’s activities area provides fun for the entire family. Proceeds from the annual fundraiser benefit downtown improvement projects.

SOLD OUT: Avery Brewing Company’s 8th Annual Boulder Strong Ale Festival, April 30 & May 1

We sure hope you bought those tickets for the 8th Annual Boulder Strong Ale Festival early, because they are all gone! The event takes place at the Avery Brewing Company this Friday and Saturday, and both days are all sold out!

Friends of Dogwood Pavilion at Piedmont Park, April 17 & 18

The Friends of Dogwood Pavilion, a local restaurant tasting and wine sampling area, will once again open the doors to some of the city’s best cuisine during the 74th Annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival on April 17 and 18. Open Saturday and Sunday during the festival, the Friends of Dogwood is a ticketed area. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $25 or for $30 at the door. “Friends With Benefits” tickets are an additional $20 and include an open bar ticket from 1:00 – 9:00 pm. This year the “Friends Of Dogwood” program will be held indoors at the newly renovated Greystone event facility (the former bathhouse).
