The Argonaut Benefit at the Rock and Roll Hotel – June 30

The Argonaut Benefit at the Rock and Roll Hotel – June 30

Washington, D.C.’s The Argonaut, a neighborhood staple on H Street, recently suffered an unfortunate fire - destroying the coastal themed tavern’s kitchen and bar area.

The Rock and Roll Hotel, whose kitchen was created by the staff at the Argonaut (and who also happen to be a Ticket Alternative venue) are hosting an Argonaut fundraiser Wednesday, June 30.

Admission is $20 (service charge-free) and includes free cocktails from 5 to 11 p.m. Rock and Roll Hotel co-owner Steve Lambert says “100 percent” of proceeds will go to the employees and management of the Argonaut to help make up for lost wages and also “small repairs” that can help get the bar up and running.

Leila’s Three Picks Of The Week: The Constellations, Florence and the Machine, Vampire Weekend

Leila’s Three Picks Of The Week: The Constellations, Florence and the Machine, Vampire Weekend

Here’s what I’ve been grooving to this week:

The Constellations – “Setback”

THE CONSTELLATIONS | MySpace Music Videos

Hometown heroes (from our neck of the woods in Atlanta) The Constellations are set to take over the world this summer. They’ll be taking on a huge tour starting this month, and will be making a stop at Atlanta’s Drunken Unicorn with Hockey on March 23 and at DC9 on May 3.

Drunken Unicorn, March 23

DC9, May 3

Florence and the Machine is an act that has featured in this feature before, with Dizzee Rascal at The BRITS, but it seemed fair that she got her own spot, especially since her videos are so visually stunning, matching her phenomenal sound.

Many of us have been positively giddy at the release of the new Vampire Weekend record. The video for “Giving Up The Gun” cements our giddiness. The band is touring the country (most shows are sold out) and we’re selling tickets for the Official Vampire Weekend Afterparty on Saturday, April 3 at DC9, with the band’s bassist Chris Baio, who DJs simply as “BAIO,” DJing.

Vampire Weekend’s bassist Chris Baio, who DJs simply as “BAIO,” will be setting up shop and spinning his favorite tunes at Washington, D.C.’s very own DC9, for the Official Vampire Weekend Afterparty on Saturday, April 3.
