Q&A with Girl in a Coma; Playing Juanita’s September 1

Girl in a Coma, San Antonio’s sweethearts and all-girl punk rock band, sat down with Ticket Alternative’s Sarah Spencer before their July 14, 2010 show at Maxine’s Pub in Hot Springs, Ark. for a candid look into life on the road, their common interests, as well as some of the life history that inspires them.

It’s nice to meet you guys. Welcome to Hot Springs.

Jenn: Thank you. It is hot.

It is hot! You’ll have to check out that hot water fountain across the street [the natural hot water springs].

Jenn: I know. It’s so cute, though.

Thank you. I love it here. Is it your first time in Arkansas? or Hot Springs?

Phanie Diaz:  Yes
Jenn: First time in Hot Springs.
Nina Diaz:  We played in Little Rock before. … Continue Reading

Live Review: Girl In A Coma at Maxine’s, July 14

Review and photos by Sarah Spencer

The electricity in the air was palpable in downtown Hot Springs, Ark. Not only had Maxine’s Pub added itself to the Ticket Alternative family earlier this summer, but it has also been attracting nationally- and internationally-known artists to the remodeled and historic venue in recent years. New owners Agnes Galecka and husband Kevin Rogers have really helped solidify the Spa City in the independent live music scene with their new, bigger, relocated stage, a top of the line sound system, quality stage lighting,  and not to mention, an always clean venue and friendly staff. … Continue Reading

Marcy Playground, Tantric, Lord T & Eloise Coming to Arkansas’ Brickhouse Grill

One of our newest venue signings, Brickhouse Grill, has just announced some great shows.

90′s hit-makers Marcy Playground are still churning out great songs, and will be hitting Arkansas August 14.

Heavy post-grunge rockers Tantric are back on tour and will be stopping by the Brickhouse Grill on August 18.

And finally, time-traveling baroque rappers Lord T and Eloise will come to Jonesboro on August 20.

Corey Smith, Pato Banton, Framing Hanley and More Shows Just Announced for Little Rock!

Corey Smith, Pato Banton, Framing Hanley and More Shows Just Announced for Little Rock!

Little Rock just got a ton of sweet shows added for late summer!

Hot Water Music’s former frontman Chuck Ragan has been making quite a name for himself these four years since the post-hardcore group broke up. Ragan will be touring in his “troubadour” style this summer and will stop in Little Rock for a show at Sticky Fingerz Chicken Shack on August 3.

Once mostly known for their cover of Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop,” Nashville’s Framing Hanley is now packing rooms with their emo-tinged alt-rock. They’re playing Juanita’s August 16.

British reggae star Pato Banton has been a big name in the reggae world ever since his work with The Beat back in the ’80s. He’s back on tour in America with a show at Revolution Music Room on August 18.

Georgia-raised singer/songwriter Corey Smith always packs the house, and frequently has sold out shows all over the country, so make sure you buy tickets for his August 21 show at Brickhouse Grill in Jonesboro (near enough to Little Rock that you should still drive!) now.

And finally, rowdy punk rockers Titus Andronicus add a Little Rock show at Revolution Music Room on August 30 to their busy tour schedule. The band has been dominating the blogosphere for much of the year.

American Idol’s Charity Vance at Juanita’s – Friday, June 25

American Idol’s Charity Vance at Juanita’s – Friday, June 25

Think back to the first round of “American Idol” season nine contestants who made it all the way to Hollywood. In that group of hopeful singers we met 16-year-old Charity Vance from Little Rock, Ark. With her quiet but powerful voice, Vance wowed the judges with a jazzy/soulful rendition of “Summertime.” It was clear, when it came to singing, Charity was talented.

Although she didn’t become the season’s “Idol,” Charity definitely didn’t give up the her dream. Since season nine, Charity has released her first single “Icing,” has been working on a full-length album and is currently planning a tour!

See Charity Vance live in Little Rock at Juanita’s this week – Friday, June 25 with opening act Benjamin’s Army.

The Young Veins

Take a Vacation!

One Haven

By Alexandra Edwards

Plenty of musicians begin their careers making music in the indie world and later move on to major label deals and MTV exposure. But is it possible to follow that path in reverse?

That’s what Los Angeles band The Young Veins are trying to find out. The band consists of two former members of Panic! at the Disco, an MTV darling of a band if ever there was one. Three other, more anonymous, members round out the quintet, and they’ve just released their debut album, Take a Vacation! … Continue Reading

POSTPONED: Hammock at Maxine’s, June 12 – New Date September 11

POSTPONED: Hammock at Maxine’s, June 12 – New Date September 11

Hammock have had to postpone their show at Maxine’s in Arkansas on June 12 due to scheduling conflicts brought on by the Nashville flood. The new date for the show is September 11. All tickets purchased bought will be honored for the new date. Here is a message from the venue:

The flood that caused such a staggering amount of damage to middle Tennessee also exacted its toll on the home of Hammock’s Marc Byrd, whose first floor was totally destroyed by the all-time record crests of the Harpeth River. Unexpected complications, limited resources and rehearsal time and space necessitated that the date be moved from June 12 to September 11.

Hammock apologize for the inconvenience and as always, look forward to performing at Maxine’s in their adopted hometown of Hot Springs.
