Q&A with Scott Lucas of Scott Lucas and The Married Men

Q&A with Scott Lucas of Scott Lucas and The Married Men

By Sarah Spencer

Scott Lucas of Scott Lucas and The Married Men, also of Local H, sat down with Ticket Alternative’s Sarah Spencer, for an interview before their March 16 show at Maxine’s Pub in downtown Hot Springs, Ark. for a quick glimpse into he and his band’s life on tour and some of his influences musically.

Thank you for coming back to Hot Springs, Scott.

You’re welcome. Thank you for coming back yourself.

You’re welcome. It’s my pleasure. Can you describe to me your sound in your own words?

Um, I don’t really know. Basically, I just really wanted to do something that was really mellow. Basically that’s the best way I can describe it. Something like the first or second Cowboy Junkies record. So it was just something like that. Just trying to be just this sort of romantic type of sound, you know? And the more we played the more comfortable the band got. … Continue Reading

Picture Book: Johnny Rocket, Death on Two Wheels, The Poison Control Center at Maxine’s Pub, November 5

Picture Book: Johnny Rocket, Death on Two Wheels, The Poison Control Center at Maxine’s Pub, November 5

By Sarah Spencer

On November 5, The Poison Control Center, Death on Two Wheels and Johnny Rocket came to Maxine’s Pub in Hot Springs, Ark. Local Arkansan and acoustic folk rocker Johnny Rocket opened for a band out of Atlanta, Death on Two Wheels, with their classic rock sound and raw vocals. Last up, acrobatic and energetic power-poppers, The Poison Control Center out of Iowa got the audience up out of their seats and then broke boundaries between audience and band by continually coming off stage for interaction during their performance. Not to mention, they also broke the drum set during the last song dog pile.

Live Review: Girl In A Coma at Maxine’s, July 14

Live Review: Girl In A Coma at Maxine’s, July 14

Review and photos by Sarah Spencer

The electricity in the air was palpable in downtown Hot Springs, Ark. Not only had Maxine’s Pub added itself to the Ticket Alternative family earlier this summer, but it has also been attracting nationally- and internationally-known artists to the remodeled and historic venue in recent years. New owners Agnes Galecka and husband Kevin Rogers have really helped solidify the Spa City in the independent live music scene with their new, bigger, relocated stage, a top of the line sound system, quality stage lighting,  and not to mention, an always clean venue and friendly staff. … Continue Reading

We have a few pairs of tickets to give away for the excellent show teaming up Texas chick rock trio Girl In A Coma (signed to Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records’ label) and Scott Lucas (of Local H fame) & The Married Men. A pretty awesome, killer rock ‘n’ roll line-up in our opinion.

POSTPONED: Hammock at Maxine’s, June 12 – New Date September 11

POSTPONED: Hammock at Maxine’s, June 12 – New Date September 11

Hammock have had to postpone their show at Maxine’s in Arkansas on June 12 due to scheduling conflicts brought on by the Nashville flood. The new date for the show is September 11. All tickets purchased bought will be honored for the new date. Here is a message from the venue:

The flood that caused such a staggering amount of damage to middle Tennessee also exacted its toll on the home of Hammock’s Marc Byrd, whose first floor was totally destroyed by the all-time record crests of the Harpeth River. Unexpected complications, limited resources and rehearsal time and space necessitated that the date be moved from June 12 to September 11.

Hammock apologize for the inconvenience and as always, look forward to performing at Maxine’s in their adopted hometown of Hot Springs.
