5GB With JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound; Playing Black Cat, Tonight May 16th

According to Paste Magazine, JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound  “describe themselves as a post-punk soul band, but their sound is so much more expansive than that. Uptown Sound is on par with soul musicians from the heyday of the genre’s popularity.”  They are in D.C. tonight playing at the Black Cat, and joined us for our 5GB series before the show.

What’s the first gig you ever attended?

Night Ranger & Starship @ DC Convention Center. Starship opened with “We Built This City”, reprised it later in the set, and then included in the encore. Give the people what they want 😉

What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?

The last one. Hometown show @ Metro, 1000 screaming, clapping, dancing fans.

What is the best gig you have ever seen?

The Make-Up @ a loft party in Boston. Ian Svenonius spent more than half the show being supported by the hands of the first few rows of the crowd.

Gig you would most like to play?

Saturday Night Live, or Late Night w/ Jimmy Fallon, with the Roots sitting in.

What would be the lineup for your dream gig?

Fugazi, Raphael Saadiq, White Stripes, Public Image Ltd (original line-up w/ Jah Wobble on bass)
