DC based band, The Beanstalk Library is often likened to Big Star, Elvis Costello, and Teenage Fanclub. As a diehard Big Star fan, I knew I had to give them a listen. From the moment I heard “Elephantitis” off their 2007 debut album, America At Night, I was hooked.
Ryan Walker is the mastermind songwriter behind The Beanstalk Library. On their acclaimed local debut America At Night, as well as on more recent internet-released recordings, the band has explored classic pop and roots influences and welcomed contributions from other notable DC musicians, including members of Exit Clov and These United States. Their new full-length album will be released in 2013.
The Beanstalk Library has built a loyal following, playing regular shows at DC venues such as Black Cat, Iota, Jammin’ Java, and Rock and Roll Hotel, and playing with the likes of Field Music, Jukebox The Ghost, Modern Skirts, Tapes n’ Tapes, Retribution Gospel Choir, Cloud Cult, Cotton Jones, Jenny Owen Youngs, Sera Cahoone, and Illinois.
With the promise of hearing new songs from their forthcoming 2013 album, The Beanstalk Library’s show coming up at Black Cat is one you won’t soon forget!
The Beanstalk Library will be at Black Cat on Feb. 28 with Ryan Tennis Music & Andy Zipf. Doors are at 8p.m. and tickets are only $10.
