I think I have just found my new favorite band, Mansions on the Moon. The four-piece band (Ted Wendler- guitar/vocals, Ben Hazlegrove- keyboards, Jeff Maccora- bass and Lane Shaw- drums) formed in 2011 in Los Angeles, California. Their music is infused with influences from electronic, hip-hop, indie rock and pop and their sound incorporates vocal harmonies, live acoustics and midi-based production.
Their first release, “Paradise Falls Mixtape” (produced by Diplo and DJ Benzi), includes collaborations with Xaphoon Jones (of Chiddy Bang), Deadmau5, Washed Out, and Big Gigantic. Hypetrak called them one of the “most interesting recording artists to have emerged this year” (in 2011). The same year, Mansions on the Moon joined Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller on the Green Carpet Tour and were included in the Snowball Music Festival line-up.
In 2012, the released their second album, the “Light Years EP”, which was produced by Pharrell Williams. They also joined the line-up for SXSW, and began their Light Years Tour.
Catch them at Black Cat in D.C. on April 3. Tickets are $12.
