Doug Stanhope is an American stand-up comedian, actor and author known for his abrasive and controversial comedy style. He’s appeared at several major comedy festivals around the world, he’s been in films, an 8-page British GQ spread and even self-published a book! This guy has it going on!
Doug is starting a new tour this week and we were thrilled to ask him some questions before he hits up the State Theatre in D.C. on May 9. Believe us, this is NOT a show you want to miss! He’ll have you rolling out of your seats with laughter!
Check out the interview below!
When did you know you wanted to do comedy?
About 6 months after I started.
Growing up, were you the class clown in school?
I got screwed out of it the only time it went to a vote in 7th grade. Someone told me that I’d won and whatever teacher was in charge changed it to someone else. My first conspiracy theory maybe.
Do you remember the first time you did stand-up comedy? How old were you? Where was it?
I was 23 in Las Vegas carrying a pitcher of beer in my gut.
What has been your favorite gig?
Prison gig in Iceland.
What is your dream gig?
Punching Nancy Grace to death, starting with the lower extremities.
What other comedians do you admire?
Sean Rouse. Andy Andrist. Mat Becker. Junior Stopka. No sense naming the ones you’ve heard of.
What are your plans for the remainder of 2013?
Plans never work. I’ve tried them. I dont even bother with hopes anymore.
