Remember the Eighties? Sure, we all do…but the Legwarmers don’t just remember the Eighties – they relive them. With more moves than a Rubik’s Cube, the Legwarmers take the stage like it’s prom night in a John Hughes movie, a very special episode of “Square Pegs” and the Monsters of Rock Tour – all at once. So remember: this ain’t no half-assed cover band, this ain’t no disco, this ain’t no fooling around – it’s the Legwarmers, the Ultimate 80s Tribute Band.
We got to chat with Gordon Gartrell of The Legwarmers before he hit the State Theatre stage with the group this weekend! Here’s what he had to say!
What has been one of your most memorable moments as The Legwarmers?
I’ll go with the time the dudes dressed up as Ghostbusters and got in a West Side Story-style brawl with the dudes dressed up as DEVO. It was a draw.
For those who aren’t familiar with The Legwarmers, what can they expect at a show?
They can expect well executed 80’s hits performed back-to-back with minimal interruption between songs and lots of jump kicks. They can also expect an audience of like-minded fans who are dressed in 80’s era appropriate gear and singing/screaming along to the music. In short, a good time.
What do you love about the ’80s?
This list could grow to epic proportions so I’ll just give a few:
-Van Halen’s guitar
-Huey Lewis’ red suit in the “I Want a New Drug” video
-Bowie in the “Let’s Dance” era
-Capt. Lou Albano’s performance in the “Girl’s Just Wanna Have Fun” video
What is your dream venue to play in?
We want to play Wembley and JFK stadium on the same day like Phil Collins did for Live Aid. If that’s not possible the State Theatre in Falls Church, Va will suffice.
How do you connect with the crowd?
It’s pretty easy to connect with fans in a Rocky Horror audience participation style fervor especially when armed with over two hundred 80’s hits. We are also very accommodating to people who want “shout outs”. If you email us beforehand or write on a napkin in semi-legible scrawl, we are glad to dedicate a song for your birthday, Bachelorette party or to your cat who just had kittens.
The Legwarmers have been rockin’ out for over 10 years. Where do you see yourselves in the next 10 years?
Probably in the same place but with 400 songs in our arsenal instead of 200 and we’ll all be wearing jet packs.
Don’t miss The Legwarmers bringing back the 80’s to the State Theatre THIS Friday, June 28 and Saturday, June 29! It’s ALWAYS an AWESOME time!
