On Friday, June 7th at 8 p.m. the first Major League Lacrosse game to be hosted in Georgia will occur. Kennesaw Sate University will be hosting the face off between the Rochester Rattlers (1-3) home game against the Boston Cannons (1-3) at the Fifth Third Bank Stadium. The facility is conveniently located just one mile from both I-75 and I-575 in Cobb County. Gates opening at 6:30 p.m. and the game will be starting at 8:00 p.m. The game will serve as a test, as the league determines expansion.
For years, lacrosse has certainly had a place in Atlanta’s college and high school sports, and the addition of a Major League team would positively impact the surrounding cities and the Kennesaw community and University.
A variety of events are planned with the intent to build awareness and excitement for the professional sport. The MLL hopes to be welcomed by the community and this is hopefully the first step towards having a full time team in Atlanta.
The event is being supported by the Atlanta Sports Council, a division of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. The Atlanta Sports Council has played a role in helping to attract and support more than 50 major sporting events to metro Atlanta, including Super Bowls XXVIII and XXXIV, the Centennial Olympic Games, two NCAA Women’s Final Fours and three NCAA Men’s Final Fours.
