Established in 1975, USA Rugby is the governing body for the sport of rugby in America and a Full Sport Member of the United States Olympic Committee. It also hosts over 30 national playoff and championship events every year. They may be based in Colorado and the International Rugby Board may be based in Dublin, but this year the US qualifying games will take place at Kennesaw State University, just outside of Atlanta!
In October 2009, the International Olympic Committee announced that Rugby Sevens (the seven-a-side version of the game) will appear in the 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro. You may not be able to make it to Sochi, Russia next month but you can still root on your fellow Americans at this Olympic sport! If you need something to get the lovey-dovey-ness out of your system and stay in the Olympic spirit, KSU’s Fifth Third Bank Stadium will host Atlanta Sevens, the second leg of the 2013-14 IRB Women’s Sevens World Series, February 15 and 16.
Best of all, those who purchase two-day passes for Atlanta Sevens will receive a 20% discount on tickets for the Rugby World Cup qualifiers, on March 29th where the USA will take on Uruguay. Discount codes will be emailed to ticket purchasers. This sweet deal is for rugby fans and international sports enthusiasts alike!
