Jackopierce with special guest, Emily Hearn

Where: Eddie’s Attic, Decatur, GA

In 1988, Jack O’Neill and Cary Pierce, the “Jack O” and “Pierce” who make up the seminal acoustic duo, Jackopierce, were playing cover songs in a dingy club with a crummy PA in their hometown of Dallas, Texas. In a moment of young-musician desperation, they whipped up a tune on the spot called “Three of Us In A Boat” to elongate their set. That became a signature track for a decade-long career wherein the two-piece sold 500,000 records over six albums (two for major label A&M) and toured three continents, nine countries, and 44 states. After a five-year breakup, in 2002 the duo reconvened as Jackopierce. Today Jack O’Neill and Cary Pierce have a renewed creative vigor, mutual respect, and deep gratitude for their Jackopierce heritage. These good vibes shine through on JP’s euphoric new album, Everywhere All The Time, out August 28. Shows at 7:30pm and 9:45pm.

DJ Shadow w/ Cut Chemist

Where: The Loft, Atlanta, GA

2012  saw a shift in Shadow’s live persona…at the request of trendsetting LA club night Low End Theory, he returned to playing traditional, contemporary DJ sets, often eschewing his own music for that of peers. The hard-hitting sets Shadow played coexisted with the rise of trap, juke, and the fledgling beat scene, catching the ear of large-scale EDM icons such as Diplo and Bassnectar, with whom Shadow performed. An incident at a Miami superclub, in which Shadow refused to temper his set to suit management, was captured on video and went viral, prompting a debate about the autonomy of DJs and the music they play.  This only seemed to heighten demand for Shadow as 2013 reportedly saw him play over 100 shows.

He began studying violin and composition at the age of eight and went on to study classical violin at the University of Texas where he fell in love with electronic music production. It was in Madden’s pursuit of his gypsy roots that he opened his ears to music from around the world. From experiences learning violin with mysterious masters on his journeys across the globe and his passion for modern design and technology, the current sound of Govinda was born.

Hunter Callahan CD Release

Where: Eddie’s Attic, Decatur, GA

The start of 2013 saw Hunter become a regular on stages like Eddie’s Attic, opening numerous shows as a special guest, playing in three of the Young Artist Showcases, and earning a spot in the famed Bi-Annual Open Mic Shootout. 2013 also saw the recording of his first independent EP, and a performance at the “Unplugged in the Park” concert series held annually at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, GA.  Another landmark in Hunter’s career was his first headlining show. The sold-out show was booked at one of the nation’s most famous listening rooms, Eddie’s Attic, and it proved to be a foreshadowing of his 2nd show at Eddie’s. So the story is just getting started, but with multiple sold out shows under his belt and a debut record on the way, Hunter’s story definitely has promise.

Over the last fifteen years, the Arizona-based quartet has delivered vivid lyrics, addictive guitar riffs, and a full-bodied rhythm section on more than a dozen studio and live albums. Murder at the Mardi Gras Where: Mardi Gras Casino, Hallandale Beach, FL

It’s not every day that a dinner with friends risks a murder accusation. However, that’s a good possibility for the guests of Murder at the Mardi Gras, who will find themselves in the middle of an investigation for which any one of them could stand accused by a hapless detective. During each interactive dinner, our troupe of professional improv actors will ignite the second floor area with entertaining outbursts and hilarious one-liners in an effort to divulge clues and redirect guilt. Meanwhile, our guests will work together to sniff out the real culprit, which is definitely not the school janitor in a mask (or is it?).
