Capturing the Spirit of Oakland
Where: Historic Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta, GA
Historic Oakland Cemetery receives many visitors each day, but only at Halloween do the gates stay open after dark. Sundy Best
Where: Eddie’s Attic. Decatur, GA
Sundy Best crafts music that re-imagines timeless classic rock of the ‘70s and ‘80s – think the Eagles and the smart, whiskey-voiced lyrics of Tom Petty and Bob Seger. With Nick on guitar and Kris on cajon, Sundy Best takes that sound, modernizes it in their own unique way by borrowing hints of country and bluegrass, to make it personal. Offstage, the pair are lifelong friends, college athletes and dog-lovers; onstage the musical duo delivers something wholly fresh and original, blending their best influences with personal music histories.
Colony House and Knox Hamilton with special guests
Where: The EARL, Atlanta, GA
It’s not surprising that Colony House has struck a resonant chord with listeners. The threesome maintains a balance of craft and immediacy that reflects its affinity for the sound of such alt-rock outfits as Interpol and The Killers, while echoing the influence of such alternative icons as U2 and New Order. They’ve assimilated their multiple influences in a manner that’s wholly distinctive, adding tight harmonies, strong instrumental chops and a keen melodic sensibility that’s all their own.
X Ambassadors with Jamie N Commons and Arkells
Where: Vinyl, Atlanta, GA
Brooklyn-based alt-rock ensemble X Ambassadors make passionate, dark, and literate music that mixes acoustic, electric, and electronic sounds. Originally, the band formed while singer/songwriter Sam Harris, his keyboardist brother Casey Harris, and childhood friend guitarist Noah Feldsuh were in college. However, X Ambassadors officially solidified around 2010 after the three moved to New York City, where they met drummer Adam Levin. They released their debut EP, Love Songs Drug Songs, in 2012.
Heavenly Beat with Axxa and Abraxas
Where: 529, Atlanta, GA
“PROMINENCE” is the 2nd full length in as many years from Texas transplant John Pena. It was recorded/mixed in the same apartment(after a failed attempt to mix in a “real” studio) as last years TALENT over the first few months of 2013 after shelving a full length’s worth of songs for not being sonically or emotionally interesting enough.Using Primitive Radio God’s “Standing Outside A Broken Telephone Booth With Money In My Hand” as a sonic touch point John built a new album from the ground up utilizing chopped/sampled drum breaks and, for the first time, some non laptop based keyed instruments(piano, mellotron) along with H.B. main stays classical guitar and steel drums. Live member Christian Barsi and Daniel Schlett of Strange Weather Studio both contributed keys to a few songs but the outcome is still a very solo sounding project.Arrangements is where PROMINENCE shines.

John Prine

An acclaimed singer/songwriter whose literate work flirted with everything from acoustic folk to rockabilly to straight-ahead country. Prine’s compositions caught the ear of Kris Kristofferson, who was instrumental in helping him win a recording contract.
