Play Preview: Newsies @ The Fox Theatre Jan. 20-25, 2015

Newsies The Musical, coming to The Fox Theatre for five special days in January, is a high-energy explosion of song and dance you won’t want to miss! The musical is based on the 1992 Disney film Newsies, which was inspired by the true story of the Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City. The musical originally premiered at the Paper Mill Playhouse in 2011 and made its Broadway debut in the year 2012.

A true story of overcoming obstacles and standing up for one’s rights, the musical is about Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of life as an artist away from the big city. After New York publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer raises newspaper prices at the newsboys’ expense, Kelly and his fellow newsies take action. With the help of female reporter Katherine Plumber, all of New York City eventually recognizes the power of “the little man.”

Newsies is a fast-paced musical with mind-blowing choreography, catchy songs by eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast), and a book that theatergoers of all ages will enjoy. The Broadway production includes many of the songs from the 1992 film and features a new love story between Jack Kelly and Katherine Plumber. It’s a rousing tale about fighting for what’s right and staying true to who you are.

A thrilling musical that the whole family can enjoy, Newsies will be sure to entertain audience members of all ages! Don’t miss your chance to see this exciting musical at the fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA.

Newsies delivers with wit and heart, stick-in-your-head melodies and dazzlingly athletic choreography.” – USA Today
